Grant Proposal: TogetherCrew (community health project by RnDAO)

Grant ID: 85zrq478p

Summary:

If Web3 is all about communities, how do we know if we’re heading in the right direction?

We have built a framework for evaluating the construct of a community and getting to the root causes behind community behavior and outcomes (https://rndao.mirror.xyz/F-SMj6p_jdYvrMMkR1d9Hd6YbEg39qItTKfjo-zkgqM).
We’ll leverage this research and framework and use an open source data collection tool to analyze The Graph’s community structure and communication patterns, in the context of what core team wants to achieve, and provide insights and recommendations. Thank to this, we can help community managers prioritise initiatives more strategically, spot hidden risks, be more tactical in their execution, and assess progress.

Concretely, we’ll:

  • deploy our open source data collection tool on The Graphs discord (admin can select which channels to obscure)

  • carry a full community health assessment and deliver it as a report for the Graph community team (if desired this can include metrics that help to assess communication patterns across teams)

  • facilitate a workshop with The Graph team to discuss the findings, provide recommendations and brainstorm initiatives to further improve the community’s health.

  • automate key indicators into a live dashboard for The Graph

Yes

If yes, please describe where you’ve received funding from and how much you have, or will, receive:
We’ve received the following funding enabling us to do the first 6 months of research and then build the discord data collection tool and analyses:
Aragon: 30,000 for research, discord tool development and providing community health report
Aave: 20,000 for research, discord tool development and providing community health report

Near: 30,000 to provide community health reports to 6 near communities

What’s your vision for how your project will impact The Graph and/or web3?:
The project will provide powerful community health insights to the community team to advance their work. We’ve delivered an earlier version of this work and received the following feedback from our users:

“With the Community Health Report, we understood the overall feeling of our members towards our community. It helped us recognize the different kinds of interactions and uncover hidden problems. Thanks to all the provided insights we could take the necessary actions.” Incandenza, Community Guild & Core Contributor at Aragon
”The community health dashboard showed us where the fire is. The metrics were real and useful” Kyle from LexClinic (LexDAO)

Thanks to The Graph support we’ll also be able to advance this stream of research and development to champion healthy communities as the beating heart of web3.

What can you share about any past work that is relevant to this grant?:

Can you share any information about current/past web3 experience?:
I (Daniel) ahve been in web3 since 2018, was head of Governance at Aragon in 2021. One of our developers was also part of the Aragon team.
Sam (staff engineer at polygon and ex tech lead at Aragon) is also our tech advisor.

Why are you interested in contributing to The Graph and/or web3?:
We’re passionate about data and community health. The Graph is a great protocol supporting key functionalities for the Web3 ecosystem and we’d love to support and help ensure its success.

Additionally, The Graph has invested significant resources in developing its community. We want to help ensure that said investment continues to yield results by empowering community managers with strategic insights and tools for tactical execution.

Thank you for submitting your proposal. After review of the content, this appears to be a tooling grant application and is therefore not within scope of community grants that the Graph AdvocatesDAO oversees.

You can submit your proposal directly to the Graph Foundation following this link: The Graph: Grants Application. Good luck!

Hey Doxe01.eth
Thanks for your reply

I’m a bit confused about the categories. Our proposal’s main benefit is that of supporting community development. The way we achieve this includes a tool but the output is analytics and insights plus having our solution available for community managers to execute effectively on the recommendations.
I’m concerned our application will be rejected if we frame it as tooling development for the Graph protocol.

Could you please advise?
Happy to edit the proposal and help clarify if that’s the issue

Yes, hi! The Graph and GraphAdvocates DAO, are in fact 2 separate entities that work for the common good of The Graph ecosystem and the web3.

We don’t have access to The Graph’s official Discord and can’t tell them what to do. Therefore, your proposal falls more under the grants of The Graph.

Since for the DAO, as previously stated, you are providing services for free as part of a grant from Near.

It also makes no sense to write to us, as it will be much easier if you work with them directly.

I hope I have answered your question. Thank you!!
