Greetings! @farmer

Thank you for taking the time to apply for the grant. I have read the information you have provided and have a few things I would like to talk about.

I would like to start by saying that it is not clear what form the workshops will take. Likewise, I mean will they be some technical sessions on how to create something. Or they will be just some lectures that will be about The Graph and Web3.

You’ve indicated that you’re applying as a team. I would like to hear who else in the team will be working on the workshops, except you alone. And who will be presented as a speaker? Is it planned to be you or another person? Also, have you contacted any other advocates who might be able to help you.

You mentioned that the university is free, have you organized that in advance? Or have you yet to do that?

The grant itself looks pretty good, but there are still some things that I would like to clarify to get a clearer understanding of the goals and how to achieve them.

Thank you!

Team (Supredu and I) . We are both Graph Advocates. Supredu is now studying in the Chengdu University of Information and technology while I am living in Beijing.

farmer(main speaker & organizer): covering how web3 and graph is evolving in this month
supredu(speaker & organizer): covering technical issues such as how to deploy a subgraph and etc.
we will also invite other attendees to share if possible.

We both have a good relationship with the university and we will make it free in Venue this autumn.

Hope it is clear.

Greetings!

The presentation of the grant will be in the public-voice-chat channel on the Graph AdvocatesDAO Discord server on August 8th at 10:00 UTC. Entrance is open and everyone is welcome to come in and ask their questions during the presentation!

Thank everyone for your attention!

HI @farmer , thanks for applying grant, after checked your proposal carefully, I have some questions.

  1. Could you provide more details about the content and structure of the monthly Web3&Graph workshops? How will you ensure they are engaging and beneficial to the students?

  2. How do you plan to promote and attract students to participate in the workshops? You have found teachers to cooperate?

  3. How do you plan to measure the impact of the workshops on the students and the local community? What specific metrics will you use to evaluate success?

4: The content and lessons is dedicated for Graph, or include another Web3 projects?

5: Is Chengdu university support this kind of topic in their school ?

Welcome to the presentation which was scheduled for August 8th at 10:00 UTC!
1 Summarize what happened in Web3 and Graph ecosystem. I know the students and will start from some basic knowledge in web3.
2 We(Supredu and I) will promote the event in the university .
3 Their smile after learning new knowledge? Or should we have a little test in Dec?
4 Yes.

After watching the recording from the interview I am more under the impression that the thing you are planning to host in your university, guys, falls more under the category of web3 networking and community building rather than a workshop.

You’ve said in the interview that your university offers Bachelor studies in the Blockchain Technology field, so I imagine that the workshop participants you’re targeting are not completely new to web3, and they are rather technical, so why don’t you introduce them to the resources available in your country from which they can derive knowledge and web3 news at the beginning of the first session and then introduce them to a plan what they will learn each month during the workshops. What new skills will the participants have after attending each session? Will they be able to deploy their subgraph? Or do you aim to teach them how to deploy a graph node? Or maybe will they be able to create their first dapp? (that wasn’t clear in the recording)

I am all in for new educational opportunities, but the workshops need some technical curriculum, skillset description, goals and benefits definition for the learners. To vote in favour of this proposal I would need you to determine the skill level and background of your target audience: What specific technical skills or knowledge do you want participants to gain? What should participants know and be able to do before joining as well as by the end of the workshop?

Then you should create a detailed agenda with the workshop schedule with specific time slots for each session or activity and break down the content into segments such as introductions, theory, hands-on exercises, discussions, and Q&A (e.g. presentation of the topic → exercises → hands-on activities → discussions → reading after a session).

And then I have one last question to ask: What are the knowledge sources based on which will you prepare presentation slides, handouts/ worksheets/ code samples?

I’m proposing this because I don’t want to shut down your enthusiasm and I know that beginnings can be difficult so why don’t you prepare a curriculum for the workshops based on that questions? It will be easier for the whole Grant Committee to assess your proposal. Or maybe you will decide to go the other way - maybe you would rather hold a meet-up or create web3 newsletter for the students?

After reading the proposal and the comments, my suggestion would be to go for a meet-up first in which you can host a general presentation about The Graph and spread awareness. This way you can also get a clear view about the interests of students in that area and maybe start building up a community.

Hi Julian

The blockchain course in China may not be the kind of course we imagine. Academically it is called Consortium Blockchain. Can you imagine we have Beijing Chain and Shanghai Chain in China?
Students in blockchain course have very limited exposure to the web3 world you and I know, especially for the students in less developed area, like Chengdu. Most of them do not know how the US debt ceilings, ETHCC and etc. We, as workshop speakers, wanna bridge the knowledge gap.

I totally agree with you on the technical curriculum and specific time slots for each session, however it may not be suitable for workshop 1 or workshop 2. As we plan to contribute to the Graph and web3 world in the long term, we may have more in-depth workshop in the Graph Chengdu 2024 Spring workshop.

In my perspective, let us start from some introductory and not-so-technical course and let us get to know the students better. I absolutely do not want to shun the students away by starting from too technical topics. We,as Graph Advocate, should require ourselves to learn more about Web3 and Graph and then try to decentrailize our knowledge to those who are just eager to learn. Aren’t we?

Knowledge Base: Graph Ecosystem & Ethereum Foundation & Coindesk
Our workshop will be based on global perspective, which would be really appealing to students in Chengdu.

Yes we would certainly start from introductory thing first and try to build a community here.
A meet-up is fine. Maybe we can start from 1-2 meet-up, just as you mentioned.

Hi doxe
After consulting some DAO member’s suggestion, I wanna edit my grant proposal to a meet-up proposal which is what we want to deliver in this stage. How I can edit it? Thx!

Yeah, you can just outline here what you plan to do in a new plan. With a new budget and so on. There’s no specific form.

Hi Everyone, to start building a local community is not easy and we will start from organizing 2 meet-ups in Chengdu to spread web3 knowledge and raise awareness of the best web3 indexing protocol.
As the students know Graph better, we will hold other activities like workshop in later time. Thx!

HI @farmer

Thanks for modified and resubmit the Grant application, and would like to ask When you will host the event in Chengdu, is there a specific date?

And do you have the full PDF/Docs that can show the content you will introduce to the students in Chengdu Universilty of Information Techology, I know the law in Web3-related topic in China will be strict, So I think it’s better to make the content suitable for the Universilty and Graph.

Graph need more high-quality advocates and subgraph developer. So I think a good content for the meet-up in the university and the right students will make a good outcome.

So hope you can share your detailed plan with us, and hope you get a good success

Hi Jonathan, you can find a meetup sample here. Any suggestion on preparing suitable content is warmly welcomed.
The China government expecially dislike the speculation of the crypto currency but welcome the practical usage of blockchain technology. The China govenment chose Hongkong as the web3 frontier and even encourage retail investor to buy crypto through licensed exchange like Hashkey. And we absolutely won’t discuss token price in our meetup.
I cannot figure out a date and make reservation for the classroom before the DAO approve the proposal. Hope you can understand.

BTW, Pakistan goverment do not like crypto too, but we have very active and productive Graph Pakistan Community led by great Graph Advocate who are also my role models.

gm, @farmer

Thank you for taking the time to submit and resubmit your proposals. I would love to see the Graph Advocates Program grow in China, and I think you’re on the right path.

However, I will be voting no on this proposal. I think the proposal is not clear enough.

Additionally, I think this proposal would fit perfectly under the Event Evangelist and Content Creator graph advocate roles; other advocates could even help you out with the contributions.

I hope this message does not discourage you, and I am looking forward to seeing your upcoming contributions.

HI @farmer

Thank you for reply, I think no need to talk about the token or price-related toopics, it’s better to make sure the content is good for Subgraph Development/ Community Related which can benefit in Graph Ecosystem.

Hope this will help you
