Grant Proposal: Networking Lunch during ETH India

Grant ID: 8686d2u8v

Summary:

The primary goal of the The Graph Networking Lunch is to create a conducive environment for collaboration and knowledge sharing among key players in the Web3 space. By bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds and projects, we aim to foster a spirit of community, encourage partnerships, and facilitate the exchange of insights that can drive innovation within the The Graph ecosystem.

I have read and agree to the privacy policy:
true

Describe what your project does or is aiming to do in 50 characters or less:
We are seeking support for an event that we believe will greatly benefit the The Graph community and the wider Web3 ecosystem. Following the ETH India Hackathon, we plan to organize a Networking Lunch, providing an exclusive platform for founders, engineers, protocols, and DApp developers to connect and exchange ideas.

How far along are you?:
We Finalised the Venue.

We finalised our Team.
→ Paolo Dionmede, Community Relations The Graph
→ Pranav Maheswari, Senior Solutions Architect E&N
→ Charchit Kumawat, Community Manager India

Why did you pick this idea to work on? Do you have domain expertise in this area? How do you know people need what you’re making?:
Me, Pranav, Paolo, and Charchit sat for a brief discussion on Eth India’s Advocate’s meetup and realized that it would be more prudent to have lunch with the founders, engineers, and Dapp developers from Eth India. Including some advocates in the gathering would provide them with exposure, all while saving costs.

What’s new about what you’re making? What substitutes do people resort to because it doesn’t exist yet (or they don’t know about it)?:
Our upcoming The Graph Lunch, following the ETH India Hackathon, is the latest initiative from The Graph India. It’s a unique way fostering collaboration among Web3 founders, engineers, and advocates.

What’s your vision for how your project will impact The Graph and/or web3?:
Our vision is to revolutionize BD support for The Graph and web3. We focus on proactive event engagement, setting up impactful meetings, creating meaningful connections, and ensuring follow-up. By fostering strong relations, we contribute significantly to our network’s growth.

How will you measure success?:
We will measure success by various key indicators, with one of the primary goals being the inclusion of 20 core web3 contributors in our lunch. Additionally, success will be gauged through the growth of our community engagement, the successful implementation of our project milestones, and the positive impact we make within the web3 ecosystem.

What milestones will you achieve in the coming weeks/months, with or without the grant?:
Will roll out exclusive invitation leaveraging Pranav’s connection.

Please select who you think will benefit from your project?:
Other

How much funding are you looking for? (USD):
1300

Provide a breakdown of your requested funding:
32 x 30 (People taking 5 as margin) = 960 USD
340 USD to spend on Advocate’s reiunbursement.

Total = 1,300 USD

Have you applied for (or already received) funding from somewhere else?:
Yes

If yes, please describe where you’ve received funding from and how much you have, or will, receive:
The Graph Foundation, Graph Guru Grant & Upcoming Birthday. Since i am going to collaborate with Charchit on this initiative.

Can you share any information about current/past web3 experience?:
DevRel Engineer @DataverseOS | Dev Success @TheGraphIndia

Why are you interested in contributing to The Graph and/or web3?:
The Graph is the missing piece of Web3.

Greetings!

Although the proposal is quite interesting, I would still like to clarify a few things:

  • Can you provide a more detailed breakdown of the costs involved, particularly regarding the allocation of funds for advocate reimbursement?
  • Besides the number of core web3 contributors attending, what other metrics will you use to evaluate the event’s success?
  • Are there opportunities for the community to contribute or participate in this event, beyond just attending?
  • How will the event be documented, and will the materials be shared with the wider community?

Thanks!

Certainly! Here are responses to the questions considering the context of a web3 networking lunch for core contributors:

1. Detailed Breakdown of Costs, Advocate Reimbursement
Advocate reimbursement is a crucial aspect of our commitment to inclusivity. A portion of funds is specifically allocated to reimburse advocates for their travel expenses, and any other related costs. This ensures that the event is accessible to a diverse range of contributors, regardless of their financial constraints. And also, it is also an important message that we want to provide, that quality work matters and we want to reward our top advocates.

@Charchit_web3 can you add more details here?

2. Metrics for Event Success
In gauging the success of our lunch gathering, we’ll look beyond just the count of core web3 contributors present. Success will be measured by the richness of networking connections, the quality of discussions, and the potential for new collaborations. We’ll assess engagement levels during our lunchtime discussions, gather feedback through a final survey, and conduct post-event follow-ups to understand the tangible outcomes arising from the connections made over the meal.

3. Opportunities for Community Contribution and Participation
Beyond simply attending, community members are encouraged to actively contribute to the lunch event. This can include proposing and leading brief talks, sharing insights during open discussions, or suggesting topics for casual roundtable conversations. By creating a participatory environment, we aim to make the lunch not only a place for nourishment but also a space for the exchange of ideas and collaborative dialogue.

4. Documentation and Sharing with the Wider Community
The moments shared over lunch will be captured through casual and friendly documentation, including photographs and short video clips of key moments. We’ll also compile any presentation materials into a digestible format. This content will be shared through our community channels and platforms, allowing those who couldn’t join the lunch to get a glimpse of the conversations and connections made. In the spirit of camaraderie, we want the highlights of this lunch to be accessible to the wider web3 community, creating a sense of shared experience.

By fostering active community involvement and providing transparent documentation, we aim to extend the impact of the event beyond its physical or virtual boundaries, making it a valuable resource for the broader web3 ecosystem.

Interesting Proposal, thanks for taking this to the forum.

I have some additional questions after checked all the info here:

1: In this event, will invite founders, engineers, and Dapp developers from Eth India, Pranav will use his networking to get more core devs or founders to join?

2: Is there the detailed Process or Agenda will be used during the lunch?

Here is the Menu of The Restaurant:

Since the Highest item is 32 USD taking 30 People 5 as Margin
32 x 30 = 960 USD

For an additional 340 USD, we can allocate 100-120 USD for the reimbursement of travel expenses for 3 advocates traveling to Bangalore one way, who are already scheduled to come.

Yes

Since it’s a lunch, it could primarily serve as an opportunity to build meaningful personal connections with core web3 contributors and explore possibilities for further collaboration.

Yes, exactly.

We won’t have a specific agenda as this is basically a networking lunch, but the idea is to make sure guest connect to each other to create solid networking.

Congratulations! The majority decision of the Grant Committee has concluded to recommend this proposal to the DAO.

In order to receive official approval from the DAO, a corresponding on-chain vote needs to be conducted on DAOHaus that will determine the DAO decision. A member of the Grant Committee will reach out to you via email with instructions on next steps in order to prepare for the on-chain funding proposal, which requires prior completion of KYC and consent to the Grant Agreement.

GM,

First, I want to apologize for the cost breakdown. Due to increased demand and a change in plans for a completely different hall, not just one table since they are founders, here is the updated lunch budget:

It will be $42 per person for a total of 30 people.
Additionally, there will be $340 for three Advocates’ reimbursements and $700 for miscellaneous expenses.

Total: $2300

Here is the Email got from the Hotel.

Apologies, Since it’s my mistake to underestimate the cost structure. Is there any solution.

Greetings @Charchit_Web3!

Okay, that’s pretty cool that you decided to consider different points regarding the proposal.

But I’d like to clarify two things. The first is that if you are paying the advocates from the Grant funds, then they cannot fill out PoCs and claim any additional awards for the advocates’ contributions.

The second point is about the budget. $700 for miscellaneous expenses sounds like a lot, don’t you think? Why that amount?

Thank you!

All ok

Since attached Beverage is not included. Also it would not be prudent to stop our guest from having that. At the same time it’s 5 star hotel anything extra could be too costly.

500% Yes ser.

Done

Here is the Detailed answer:

It may seem variable, but trust me, our project has been recognized by our ecosystem partner. Sooner or later, I will try hard to bring everyone under the umbrella of The Graph India, similar to what ETH Global does.

Facilitated Group Chat between Projects with BD team of E&N. Thanks to @0xpranav & @kyleARojas. for this Valuable exposure.

I am really sorry I was very involved in meeting people and handling logistics, so I was not able to take pictures. The above picture was taken by Pranav himself.

@0xpranav can you please attach some pictures here?

I wish I had pictures to share from this event but Charchit put on an incredible event in a prime location. The food and drinks were also perfect for the occasion and there was a lot of positive feedback. Because of this event, The Graph pushed forward: 1) the closing two new chain integrations, 2) pushing forward usage of The Graph with multiple projects not yet using The Graph, and 3) deepening relationships with key projects using The Graph.

Charchit put on a SUPER productive event and I’m glad I was able to attend.
