Grant Proposal: Neha and Tony Kakkar

Grant ID: 2xq155g

Summary:

Currently, India is a blue ocean. With the regulations easing up we see a huge opportunity to bring in a community into the Web 3.0 world. We are looking to bridge the gap between Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 - and making this transformation slowly transitioning from Web 2.5 to Web 3.0 so allow a mass adoption of users and build a community.

This project is focused on the biggest superstar to come out of India - Neha Kakkar and her brother Tony Kakkar. Neha is the top streaming Indian artist on Spotify for the past 2 years, whilst her brother has his own audience. They are siblings but have never performed together. Both their individual songs reach over a billion views on Youtube, and combined they have a following of over 158 million.

These 2 superstars have not only a reach within India, but also globally as Neha is doing a tour currently in the United States, Canada and UK as well.

KK Ventures is presenting a Metaverse Concert with these 2 artist on November 25th 2022. We are focusing on user adoption for this particular projects, through the Metaverse Concert and NFT ticketing. Our forecast has a worst case of 50,000 Tickets, Base Case of 300,00 tickets, and Best Case of 800,000 tickets.

The standard tickets are sold at $9.99 (Early bird $5.99) and we have 200 VIP tickets sold at $499. Audiences would gain a whole experience from this concert - including Video/Audio output, AR Experience, Quiz Feature, Voting, a Virtual Shop, NFT Drops.

Regional Community

Please select who you think will benefit from your project?:
Curators

How much funding are you looking for? (USD):
20000

Have you received funding from somewhere else?:
No

What’s your vision for how your project will impact The Graph and/or web3?:
First and foremost: The Graph and KK Venture have the same vision and mission aligned. One of our main goals is to see a growth of the community within the Web3 Space. Currently our vision is to find partners such as yourselves to help us reach these goals. Currently, content and entertainment is a way we see to bridge this gap within Asia.

With the regulations for digital assets in India finally changing, we are able to be one of the key players to enter India first. Through this metaverse concert, we are able to reach a mass audience and enable mass adoption through NFT ticketing.

So how does The Graph fit in? We are looking to grow a network of Web3 users, and to bring this new community of users to The Graph. Our current base case is 300,000 Tickets sold, that’s a community of 300,000 individuals for 1 Metaverse concert - which is just 0.2% of Neha and Tony’s followers.

So Why are we looking for a grant? Firstly, for Neha and Tony’s following, our forecast of the numbers are quite conservative. The grant would help us educate users and make the technological process as simple as possible for users to adopt Web3. The Graph would essentially be on the forefront of the concert, and given a whole lot of traction to a completely new userbase.

NFT Ticketing and NFT Merchandise would be a way to facilitate mass adoption. We have a plan of deliverables as well.

What can you share about any past work that is relevant to this grant?:
Another project that we worked on was called One E - where we completed an exclusive deal with Klaytn. There were 26 different celebrities involved, mainly focused in Thailand. The Web3 components involved were Metaverse, Wallets, and NFT Marketplace. The adoption was mainly focused in SEA, and phase 1 of the project is completed. We are beginning Phase 2 in December 2022 with Klaytn.

The numbers from this projects and the community we built showed us that a big way to bridge a gap would be through entertainment and content - which gave birth to Neha and Tony Kakkar.

Can you share any information about current/past web3 experience?:
KK Ventures has been around for 2 years. We have our own NFT Martkerplace and our own token called EAST Token.

K.Sithi Srichawla , CEO and Founder of KK Ventures and East Labs.
Deep roots and business networks in the Thai, United Kingdom, and India within the Hospitality, Entertainment, and Retail Industries. He conceptualized and created East NFT with the vision of leading Thailand into the digital trading era and creating an ecosystem.

K.Sueksith Chalasuek, Managing Director of East Labs.
More than 25 years of experience in the Media, Advertising, and agency space and has led Thailand wide initiatives for True Digital Company. A true expert in conceptualizing and producing creative while engaging campaigns across all industries and a key player in combining entertainment with Web3.

Adrian Tan, Managing Director - East Works Incubator, East B2B & Agency.
Originally from Singapore and has built businesses across Asia. Once the co-founder of the largest retail e-commerce platform known as Groupon in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand. He is the latest edition to the team and brings along with him 25 years of experience across Web 1.0 to 3.0.

Why are you interested in contributing to The Graph and/or web3?:
KK Ventures has 3 key pillars - with one of them being to build an ecosystem.

The reason we are interested in contributing to Web3 - because essentially within Asia we want to lead this. We have uncovered less than 1% of the Web3 world. We would like to build an ecosystem to bring in partners such as The Graph so we are able to make this digital transformation between Web2 and Web3 - especially within Asia.

We would like to bring a community of new userbase to The Graph as well - as we have seen the past projects that you have granted, especially doing Hackathons, building a Vietnamese community, a Spanish community, an Arabic community - we would like to add another community as well.

The Indian community - which is arguably one of the biggest communities in terms of numbers in the world.

Hello!

I have a few questions regarding this grant application:

  1. In what way is the vision of The Graph and KK Venture aligned?

  2. How would the Curator Community within The Graph ecosystem benefit from this grant?

  3. How would the $20000 be used? Please give a detailed breakdown. $2000 for x, $3000 for y, etc.

  4. How would this grant help you educate your users?

  5. How are you planning to build an ecosystem, what would this ecosystem look like, and how would you use The Graph in this ecosystem?

  6. It would be great to see a thriving Indian Graph community, but how does that relate to this grant proposal?

Thank you for your answers,

Colson

The proposal provides a well-defined scope, thank you for that. Leveraging celebrities to promote web3 can certainly make an impact in raising awareness, but I would not support using any funds from the Graph AdvocatesDAO.

The primary purpose of community grants is to focus on supporting genuine building efforts in The Graph and web3 ecosystem. This submission boils down to a pay-for-play proposal. The organizers and singers should already be well compensated given the ticket prices and estimated attendance figures, so a community grant does not seem of substantial need.

In the end, one may reasonably conclude that (part) of the grant might end up in the bucket out of which the singers get paid. Neha Kakkar is a well established celebrity with over 70 million followers on Instagram. On her Twitter account, there is no mentioning of anything about web3 in the past, but it would be great if someone like her were to start promoting it. Either way, imo, community grants from the Graph AdvocatesDAO should focus on builders in the web3 space who directly contribute with their efforts, and where there is a closer alignment to the mission of the Graph AdvocatesDAO.

Unfortunately, this grant proposal did not generate the level of support in the community to move it to the next phase of the grant application process.

Thank you for submitting this proposal and you are encouraged to stay engaged in the Graph community. You are also welcome to submit new grant applications in the future with proposals that may generate stronger community support.
