Grant Proposal: Cookbook.dev (old)

Grant ID: 86868je8y

Summary:

Cookbook is an open-source smart contract registry where developers can find solidity primitives, libraries, and smart contracts for protocols across EVM-compatible blockchains that rely on the solidity programming language.

Describe what your project does or is aiming to do in 50 characters or less:
hugging face for web3

How far along are you?:
Cookbook is funded and has over 1000 solidity developers using Cookbook projects each month.

Why did you pick this idea to work on? Do you have domain expertise in this area? How do you know people need what you’re making?:
We picked this idea to work on because we wanted help web3 developers or those becoming web3 developers. Our team has deep technical domain expertise in solidity, software development and developer tooling. We know people need what we’re making because of our explosive growth and wide adoption within the developer community, along with all the wonderful feedback we receive from developers using Cookbook.

What’s new about what you’re making? What substitutes do people resort to because it doesn’t exist yet (or they don’t know about it)?:
People would typically fork github repos or copy and paste code from block explorers like etherscan, and then manually configure their development environments. Now, Cookbook handles all of that so developers can begin exploring smart contract code and building immediately.

What’s your vision for how your project will impact The Graph and/or web3?:
Cookbook will make it easier for developers to learn about and build with subgraphs, and build in web3 in general.

How will you measure success?:
For this grant request, we’re offering The Graph a sponsorship spot at our Devconnect event, Hookah and Hack, The Future of Web3 Tooling. It is a one day summit bringing together speakers from groups like Remix, Hardhat, Typechain, and more, and is co-hosted by the Ethereum Foundation’s Remix Project. We’ll measure success by number of attendees at the event, the number of attendees present during graph panels or speaking time, and we can make an effort to track number of developers onboarded to using subgraphs or substreams during the event.

What milestones will you achieve in the coming weeks/months, with or without the grant?:
Cookbook normally references the number of active solidity develoeprs who use our products each month, along with the number of smart contracts they’ve deployed or otherwise interacted with across that same month.

Please select who you think will benefit from your project?:
Subgraph Developers, Curators, Delegators, Indexers

How much funding are you looking for? (USD):
2000

Provide a breakdown of your requested funding:
Sponsorship for Hookah and Hack - The Future of Web3 Tooling, a side event at Devconnect 2023. The event is co-sponsored by Ethereum Foundation’s Remix Project, Cookbook.dev
Buildbear.io, and fuzz.land. Sponsors will get 1 individual 20 minute talk during the daytime, access to the hour-long sponsor only speaker panel, and the ability to invite guests to the guest panel. There are already a few guest speakers attending from Edge and Node or The Graph. Sponsors will also be able to post signage around the venue, have a special table, and be included in the marketing materials for the event and marketing of the office hours.

The event already has over 150 RSVPs and more info can be seen here: Hookah and Hack - The Future of Web3 Tooling · Luma

Have you applied for (or already received) funding from somewhere else?:
Yes

If yes, please describe where you’ve received funding from and how much you have, or will, receive:
Cookbook has raised funds from VCs ($2,000,000 pre-seed round in 2023) and has accepted grants from multiple web3 communities.

Can you share any information about current/past web3 experience?:
Cookbook.dev is made up of a team of crypto native builders who have a passion for growing our industry.

Why are you interested in contributing to The Graph and/or web3?:
We believe The Graph Protocol provides an essential service to the web3 ecosystem and would like to participate in continuing to grow usage and adoption.

Are you applying as a team or individual?:
Team

What type of grant are you pursuing?:

Due to the complexities associated with large-scale sponsorships for conferences and hackathons, members of the Graph AdvocatesDAO have established a new team - The Events Team.

I will be closing this grant proposal as the newly formed team will assume responsibility for the review process of this proposal.

Thank you for your proposal, a member of the events team will reach out to you soon.
